Beyond The Ceremony – Places To Visit In Larnaca

May 3, 2017

Larnaca is widely known as one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island of Cyprus, mainly due to the broad spectrum of activities and sights it has to offer. The beautiful weather all year round is also a great bonus!

There’s something to appeal to everyone here, plus it’s a real hotspot for couples getting married in Cyprus! If you’ve chosen to stay with us at either the Golden Bay Beach Hotel or Lordos Beach Hotel in Larnaca, we know you’ll love your Cyprus beach wedding experience.

But a destination wedding can also be the holiday of a lifetime for you and your guests, so what else is there to do with your time in Larnaca? Here are a few of our top suggestions.

Explore the beautiful beaches

One of Larnaca’s best known features is its stunning seafront, featuring a series of relaxed, sandy beaches overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Finikoudes Beach is one of the longest and most popular, while Mackenzie Beach is a quieter alternative during the busy summer months. If you want to explore further by car, you won’t have to drive far to discover more options along the coast.

Visit the Church of St. Lazarus

This 9th century church (later restored in the 1600s) is one of the region’s most fascinating historical attractions. Known locally as Agios Lazaros, the beautifully decorated church is situated in the centre of Larnaca, and it contains the entrance to the original Tomb of Lazarus. Both the church and the Byzantine Museum opposite are well worth a visit.

Try snorkelling or scuba diving

If you love spending time in the water, then Larnaca offers some great activities. You’ll find a wide range of dive centres along the seafront, where the professionals can show you some of the incredible sealife and other sights just below the water level. There are also plenty of boat trips and exciting water sports available.

Enter Larnaca’s medieval fort

Another popular historical attraction in Larnaca is the medieval castle situated right by the sea. The museum inside offers some interesting exhibits and information about the history of the area, plus you’ll get a spectacular view of the sea from the battlements.

There are so many great things to see and do around the area of Larnaca that we couldn’t possibly list them all, but we can guarantee you’ll have a memorable trip if you do a little research beforehand and plan the best places to visit. We hope you have a great time and we look forward to seeing you soon!
